How is this different from regular image resizing?
Traditional resizing simply stretches pixels, resulting in blurry or pixelated images. Our upscaler uses advanced super-resolution algorithms that intelligently predict and reconstruct fine details — producing sharp, natural-looking results even at 4× the original size.
What image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 16MB are supported. The output will be delivered as PNG for maximum quality. If your file is larger than 16MB, resize it first using our Image Crop & Resize tool.
Is there a maximum output resolution?
The maximum output size is 4096 × 4096 pixels. If your image at 4× would exceed this limit, the tool automatically uses 2× instead and notifies you.
Is my image stored after processing?
No. Your image is sent directly to the Clipdrop API over a secure HTTPS connection and is not stored on ToolTiny servers. Clipdrop's own privacy policy applies to processing on their end.
Which types of images benefit most from upscaling?
Upscaling works best on photos, product images, portraits and artwork with natural textures. It performs less well on screenshots, charts or images with lots of text — for those, standard resizing often gives cleaner results.
How to upscale images online for free without a subscription?
Simply drop your photo into the workspace above, select either the 2x or 4x enlargement options, and download your high-resolution output immediately. There are no monthly fees, no registration profiles to fill out, and no software installations needed.
Can I upscale an image for printing?
Yes. An image upscaler can increase image resolution and make photos more suitable for large-format printing, posters, product catalogs, and marketing materials.
Will image upscaling remove blur?
An AI image upscaler can improve perceived sharpness and detail, but extremely blurry images may not be fully restored. The final quality depends on the original image.
What is the best upscale factor for photos?
For most photos, 2× provides excellent quality while preserving natural detail. 4× is recommended when you need a much larger high resolution image.
Can I upscale PNG images with transparency?
Yes. PNG images with transparent backgrounds are supported, and transparency is preserved during processing whenever possible.
