  2. Select your PDF files

The page is titled Merge & Combine PDF Files Into One Document. Click the upload box and select all the PDFs at once: hold Ctrl (or Shift) in the file dialog, or drag the files into the box. We picked three sample files.

Open dialog with three PDF files selected
    Select several PDFs at once
  3. Check the list and the order

The files appear under Drag to reorder with a number, a name and a size, and the counter shows 3 files. The number is the position in the final PDF. Drag a file by the handle on its left to change the order, use the X to remove one, or Add more PDF files if you forgot one.

  9. Check the last page

Scroll to the end. The last page is Appendix, file 3 of 3, page 2 of 2, and the reader shows 5 pages in total, 1 + 2 + 2, in the order we set.

What We Got

The merged file contains every page of every file, in the order of the list:

PositionFilePages
1sample-merge-1-cover.pdf1
2sample-merge-2-report.pdf2
3sample-merge-3-appendix.pdf2
Resultmerged.pdf (5.21 KB)5

The order of the numbers on the page labels (1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2) matched the order in the list, and the originals were not changed. If you want a different order, rearrange the list before you click merge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I merge PDF files online for free?
Open the Merge PDF tool, select two or more PDF files (you can pick several at once), arrange them in the order you want and click Merge PDFs into One. Then click Download Merged PDF. It is free and needs no sign-up.
How many PDF files can I merge at once?
The tool accepts up to 20 files per merge, with each file up to 20 MB.
Can I change the order of the files?
Yes. The list shows a number for each file and the label Drag to reorder. Drag a file up or down before you click merge, and the final PDF follows that order.
Will the pages stay in the right order?
Yes. The merged PDF contains the pages of file 1 first, then file 2, and so on. In our test, three files with 1, 2 and 2 pages became one 5-page PDF in exactly that order.
Does merging reduce quality or change my files?
No. Merging joins the existing pages, it does not recompress them, and your original files are not changed. You download a new file named merged.pdf.
The merged PDF is too large. What can I do?
Compress it with the Compress PDF tool after merging, or split it with Split PDF and send it in parts.
Are my files private?
Files are permanently deleted from the servers after processing. Still, do not upload documents you are not allowed to share, and follow your company policy for confidential files.
